CONTACT INFORMATION 1. WORD TRANSLATOR SHAREWARE This shareware version of Word Translator for DOS, may freely copied and circulated to whomever you choose. If they like the software and would like to order a registered version, they may do so by printing and completing the "INVOICE.TXT" document in your WORDTRAN directory; or you may write your order information on any paper you choose. Registered versions contain bilingual dictionary modules with a significantly greater number of entries, grammar help for some bilingual dictionaries and the ability to add to, change and otherwise customize the bilingual dictionary. 2. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS To allow you to both successfully install and use this shareware version of Word Translator for Windows, your computer must be an IBM-PC/XT/AT, or be IBM compatible (or an "IBM clone") and have: > DOS 2.0 or higher > A hard disk with at least 1MB of free space 3. DECOMPRESSION PROCEDURES This shareware version of Word Translator for DOS may be distributed as a compressed, self-extracting ".exe" file, consequently, if you received it in this form, it MUST be decompressed BEFORE you attempt to install it. You may decompress it on the same floppy disk you received it on if there is sufficient space available ON THE DISK or you may decompress the .exe file on your hard drive. (A) Decompress the .exe file on the floppy disk containing it: If the Word Translator shareware ".exe" file you received is the ONLY file on a high density disk, at the C:\> prompt, place the disk in your A (or B) (floppy disk) drive and change the prompt to that drive by typing A:\> (or :B\>). The prompt should change to A:\> (or B:\>). At the A:\> (or B:\>) prompt, type the name of the compressed file (e. g. WT4WPE.EXE) and press the key. The .exe file will self-extract on to your floppy disk if there is enough space available on the disk. If there is NOT enough free space to decompress the file onto the disk, you'll need to copy the compressed .exe file to a directory on your hard disk drive and decompress it IN a directory there. It may be easier to decompress the file in a directory that doesn't contain anything else. Once the.exe file is decompressed, copy all the decompressed files (except the single, original compressed .exe file you started out with) to a blank, high density floppy disk. NOTE: With the floppy disk containing the .exe compressed file in your floppy drive, you can find the name of the compressed .exe file by typing DIR at the A:\> (or B:\>) prompt and then pressing the key. A list of all files on the floppy disk in the drive should be displayed including the name of the .exe compressed file. (B) Decompress the .exe file on your hard drive: To copy the file to your hard drive BEFORE it is decompressed, place the disk containing the Word Translator .exe file in your A (or B) drive and copy the file to a directory on your hard drive (e. g. "UTILITY" or any directory name you may already have or create). We'll use the directory name "UTILITY" throughout this example. The directory should be empty. From the C:\> prompt, type MD UTILITY (to create or "make" a new directory named "utility") and press the key. Then COPY the single compressed Word Translator file to this new UTILITY directory by typing copy a:\file_name.exe C:\utility and then pressing the key. There should be ONE space at the end of .EXE and before the C:\utility directory name. The file should then be copied to the UTILITY directory on your hard disk. If the disk were in your B drive, you would us the same command line EXCEPT that you would type b:\ in place of a:\. Next, at the C:\> prompt, change to the UTILITY directory (or wherever you copied the compressed Word Translator .exe file TO) by typing CD UTILITY and pressing the key. The prompt should change to C:\UTILITY>. At this prompt, type the name (e.g. WT4WEP.EXE) of the compressed file and press the key. The .EXE file should self-extract onto your hard disk in the UTILITY directory. You can find the name of the compressed file on you disk by typing DIR and then pressing the key at the A:\> (or B:\>) prompt. 4. Word Translator for DOS FILES After using either of the above methods to decompress the Word Translator program files (or if you received them already decompressed) you should at LEAST include the following files: WORDTRAN.EXE INSTALL.EXE Language_Name.GRM * WORDTRAN.HLP INSTALL.INI Language_Name.NDX * WORDTRAN.INF INSTALL.HLP Language_Name.REC * WORDTRAN.MSG INVOICE.TXT Language_Name.SBS * WORDTRAN.SBS MANUAL.TXT Language_Name.SFX * WORDTRAN.KYS README.TXT (* these will be extracted WORDTRAN.INI from the Language.LZH file DURING installation) Language_Name denotes the specific bilingual dictionary language moduel contained in your Shareware copy of Word Translator for DOS: ENGFRE=English-French-English ENGSPA=English-Spanish-English DANENG=English-Danish-English RUSENG=English-Russian-English PORENG=English-Portuguese-English NORENG=English-Norwegian-English GERENG=English-German-English CROENG=English-Croatian-English SERENG=English-Serbian-English POLENG=English-Polish-English You will need to transfer ALL the decompressed files from the UTILITY directory (but not the single compressed file you started with) to a blank, formatted high density floppy disk. You can easily do this either by using the COPY command at the C:\> prompt or in DOSSHELL. After you have done that, you can delete the single compressed file you started with from the UTILITY directory. 5. INSTALLATION PROCEDURES A. Insert the disk containing the decompressed Word Translator files into your A (or B) drive. B. At the C:\> prompt, change to your disk drive prompt (the drive you just inserted the disk into) by typing A:\ (or B:\) [depending upon which drive you placed the disk into] and then, pressing the ) key. The C:\> prompt should change to the A:\>(or B:\) prompt --the drive containing the disk. C. After the A:\> (or B:\>) prompt appears, type: install and press the key. D. Carefully follow the on-screen installation instructions. Installation for Word Translator for DOS creates a directory on your hard disk drive normally called C:\WORDTRAN where all Word Translator for DOS files and dictionaries are located. 6. WHAT INSTALLATION DOES During Word Translator's installation process, a "Destination" window will ask you to confirm the destination drive and the name of directory for the Word Translator for DOS files. The installation program will suggest c:\wordtran (the "default"). We highly recommend you use the drive letter "C" and directory name "WORDTRAN." For most users this will not cause any conflict. But if you need to install Word Translator on a drive other than "C," type the letter of the drive you require. 7.
